Skin UV Protection. UV rays skin damage, antioxidant activity. One way to suppress melanin production is through antioxidant activity that removes reactive oxygen species generated by UV radiation. This is referred to as photoaging, with 80% ofsenescence in sunlightexposed areas, such as the face, being associated with sun damage. Protection against UV Damage. It is recommended that protective measures should be taken, not just during the summer, but also throughout the year. Skin color is dependent on the type and amount of melanin pigment present.
Skin UV Damage, Antioxidant Activity, Melanin production
Melanin is a substance created by epidermal melanocytes, which are melanin producing cells that play an intrinsic role in protecting the skin from skin disorders caused by exposure to UV rays. However, exposure to a large amount of UV radiation triggers overproduction of melanin and simultaneously increases the number of melanocytes, which results in spots, freckles, and a darker complexion. It is further known that when metabolism slows with age, the melanin excretion capability of the epidermis is reduced, causing pigmentation and spots. It is therefore necessary to suppress melanin production. There are two basic mechanisms by which this can be done.
ROS are believed to trigger melanin synthesis by melanocytes. Antioxidants such as glutathione, which is present in the cells, prevent melanogenesis in melanocytes by helping to scavenge ROS.
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant.
Glutathione is composed of three amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, bonded together (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine). It is reported that intact glutathione is absorbed Na-dependently by small intestinal epithelial cells.
UV Protection. Modern science has now validated the practice of meditation as the way to connect with the molecules of our emotions. Scientists have found that meditation changes the frequency of brain waves and allows us to access other levels of awareness. For example, when Buddhist monks are meditating and cloistered priests or nuns are at prayer, electrical waves in their brain’s awareness center (posterior superior parietal lobe) show strikingly low activity. This part of the brain, dubbed the orientation association area, provides a sharp distinction between our body and our surroundings.
Melanin is synthesized through multiple steps by tyrosinase, using tyrosine as a precursor in melanocytes, suggesting that a tyrosinase inhibitor might be effective as a UV-protection agent. Glutathione and cysteine have been confirmed not only to be antioxidants but also to be inhibitors of tyrosinase activity in mouse melanoma cells.
Natural cosmeceutica1 products for orotection against UV are attracting increasing attention, especially from the ecological and safety point of view. Collagen, hyaluronic acid, elastin, and ceramides are components of the skin’s extracellular matrix. Ceramides and glucosylceramides are contained in the stratum corneum of the epidermis and play roles in the barrier function and moisturization of the skin. Some of these components can be extracted and purified from plants. Rice ceramide extracted from rice germ and bran consists of at least six types of glucosylsphingolipids. This extract supports skin moisturizing and barrier function, suppresses melanin synthesis, promotes cell proliferation, and acts anti-inflammatorily and antiallergically.
UVA protection, rice ceramide, meditation
Therefore, application of rice ceramide in cosmeceutical products and as dietary supplements should be beneficial for maintaining a healthy skin extracellular matrix. Besides rice ceramide, we found that litchi seed extract, purple rice extract, and grape extract inhibit skin-tissue-degrading enzymes, for example collagenase, hyaluronidase, and elastase. Selective and combined application of these extracts is thus expected to help maintain skin health.
Thoughtlessness allows you to communicate fully with your cells and to create a vision of health and longevity. You use your mind to access the healing wisdom of your cells and energize them. Thus, you can tap into the natural force within to overcome ill health or disability and promote longevity. Meditation will take you out of any emotional hurts or insults you have suffered and alleviate a desire for anger and revenge. It also gives you the ability to release excessive information from your mind.
Meditation has several components, the first of which is breathing. Using the technique given above, take in several deep breaths to pull energy into your lower abdominal area. As you exhale, slowly release any concerns or thoughts. It will take daily work, but soon you will be able to free your mind with little effort. We suggest you get books or tapes on meditation that can guide you. Practice meditation at least twice a day: upon awakening and before going to sleep. During the day, go to a secluded spot to meditate if possible. At the very least, take frequent breathing breaks throughout the day.
